Moving to a new city has its challenges and can be a lonely experience. Nations Migrant Support was begun as a response to the biblical command to welcome and bless all peoples of the earth (Leviticus 19:34). Our aim is to be a blessing to visitors and immigrants from any language, religion and culture and we do this by providing a variety of social and assistance activities to help newcomers feel at home in Dunedin. Whether for work or study, or just to enjoy the splendor of New Zealand's most beautiful city, we open our hearts to every international friend. Connect to Culture is a friendship and support group for people from overseas countries. We aim to connect together the different cultures within Dunedin's ever increasing migrant population through friendship and support. We meet on the second Friday of every month at 6.30pm for a social evening and pot-luck (bring and share) meal. Each gathering is held at a different venue, usually at someone's home, and has a different cultural emphasis to promote interaction between cultural groups. Comments from some of our Connect to Culture friends: "A great way to meet people of different nationalities, to share culture and food in a friendly environment."
"We found it great. Meet with many people different cultures. Food is great all the time." "We look forward to the time of making new friends and reconnecting with old ones. It has helped us settle in to Dunedin very well and understand that we are not alone. It has provided us a group of friends that we can lean on for help and advice." "The connect to culture nights are exactly what they sound - make connections with cultures - your own and different cultures... in a warm friendly surrounding..... Would unhesitatingly recommend to one and all!!!!"
